Tracy stuck his head in the door before entering. ‘You’re back. Gabriel and I waited for you but in the end, we thought that you might not make lunch.’ His eyes flicked to the half-eaten sandwich and the empty water bottle.

‘It’s okay. I had work to do.’ She purposely used her terse tone.

He entered the room but didn’t approach her desk. ‘We waited until the last minute. I’m sorry, I would have stayed if I’d known you were eating alone.’ He waited for a response that never came before shuffling his shoulders and wandering to the whiteboard. He examined her three-point plan. ‘Cummins told us about the police file and the report to the GNIB. Why did you put Daly first?’

‘Because DNA would confirm the bones belonged to Alice Apka and because we need to establish a timeline for Apka. Where was she just before she was killed? If she was on the game, she’ll be dismissed as just another prostitute getting herself murdered. Par for the course, case closed.’

‘Have you called Daly yet?’

‘I decided to change the order. You and I are going to the office of Sábáilte here in Galway.’

‘Sábáilte that’s safe in Gaelic.’ He stood in front of her desk. ‘You are pissed off.’

‘Yes, I am. We’re a team. At least I thought we were. You are your new pal couldn’t wait to feed your faces. But let’s move on. Cliona is having a positive effect on your Irish at least. It’s an organisation that deals with fallen women and I suppose by extension fallen men.’

‘Cummins told us. Are we meeting the bull goose?’

‘If by that you mean, are we meeting the head of the organisation, I very much hope so. Get yourself busy and find out who that is and ask can we meet immediately. And tell Gabriel to contact the GNIB and speak to someone there. I doubt he’ll get anything useful but tell him to ask if there were any further contacts for Apka after Galway.’

‘Boss.’ Tracy made for the door and was out of the room in a flash.
